Benfica loses for the third time in four games. Not the start that Benfica was hoping for.
I must admit that the referee at the game on Friday was awful, and that the guy from Porto, Fernando Gomes is in charge of the Portuguese Liga, but lets be honest, there are many other reasons for the poor form that Benfica is in.
Benfica took a big gamble by not selling some of the players that had interest from other teams.
The idea was to wait a year and have them play in the Champions League so their value could go up, this will not work if the poor results continue.
There is nothing worse for team morale than to have a player on a team who does not want to be here. Benfica turned down offers for David Luis that were as high as 30 million from Chelsea and Manchester City, and also turned down offers for Oscar Cardoso that were around 15 million from Sevilla and Everton.
Benfica should have learned from Sporting. Our eternal rivals had an awful season last year which saw the value for Veloso and Moutinho go down to half the price they were asking for.
This is what is going to happen if Benfica continues with these results.
At least Roberto seems to have gained some confidence ahead of our game against APOEL on Wednesday for the Champions League.
